SOBER SYNC

creating sober spaces everywhere for everyone

Alone in the Crowd

At concerts and music festivals, sober people often feel isolated, unsupported, or pressured to drink or use drugs. Despite the growing number of people in recovery or seeking healthier social lives, there’s no easy way to find like-minded people in these high-risk environments.

the first platform for sober concertgoers

The global live music market is booming—valued at $34.84 billion in 2024 and projected to hit $62.59 billion by 2034, growing at 8.78% annually. 24% of music festival attendees report staying sober throughout the event.

Sober Sync is the first mobile platform built specifically for sober event-goers, offering real-time peer support and visibility at concerts, festivals, and nightlife venues.

Positioned at the intersection of music, tech, and wellness, Sober Sync empowers the 1 in 4 concertgoers who choose not to drink or use—giving them a community, not just an app.

features

  • Users check in to festivals, concerts, and parties to show they’re sober and present—building a safety net of peer support in high-risk spaces.

  • Drop into live group chats, themed discussions, or quiet support threads with others in recovery. Looking for one-on-one support or just want to say hi?

Start a direct message with anyone in the app who’s checked in or shared your experience—because sometimes, connection starts with just one conversation.

  • Plan your sober night out with ease. Sober Sync integrates with Ticketmaster, StubHub, and DICE so you can discover, share, and purchase tickets to events—knowing ahead of time who else in the sober community will be there.

  • A spotlight series where sober musicians, comedians, poets, and activists host virtual events to share their recovery journeys and creative work. Live Q&As and replays make it easy to stay inspired on your own time.

KEVIN SAKAL ITH

I’m the person behind Sober Sync—a music festival junkie, ex-techie, full-time social worker-in-training, and proud member of the “I go out and remember it the next day” club.

I’ve been in recovery for four years, and while I still love a good bass drop, I don’t think sobriety should mean staying home. That’s why I built Sober Sync: to help people like me find community, feel safe, and dance their face off—without needing a drink (or explaining why you’re not having one).

Right now, I’m a dual MPH and MSW student at Columbia, studying addiction treatment, public health, and harm reduction. I’m also a Fulbright Scholar, a harm reductionist at Alliance for Positive Change, and soon-to-be inpatient social worker at Mount Sinai’s psych unit.

My higher power? Morning coffee and EDM on repeat during my commute to work.

Before all this, I spent six years in tech leading DEI strategy, which taught me how to build inclusive systems. I somehow won the Healthcare VC Fast Pitch in 2024 at Columbia University, which just means a bunch of smart people think Sober Sync is a good idea. (They were right.)

Sober Sync is my love letter to all my friends who didn’t survive the disease of addiction—and my promise to those still fighting that joy, connection, and safety are still possible.
